Strength in Presence, Part 3: The Human Spirit

The spirit we each carry is a massive part of who we are.

Sometimes called the “soul,” what we at Freedom Foam think of as our “spirits” are where our life goals come from…

Where our dreams originate…

And where our connection with others and the world stems from.

Our spirits guide our emotions, too…

Which are often how the spirit and body communicate with one another.

Our minds – which help us navigate those emotions – are more logical, and act like a “control” center for our actions

Which we, in turn, carry out with our physical forms.

Many times, we make decisions and take actions without connecting with ourselves…

But when all three aspects of the self – body, mind, and spirit – are connected and communicating effectively, we find a sense of wholeness within.

When we feel whole, we are much more likely to feel fulfilled – even if our circumstances are not ideal…

Because true happiness and peace are not reliant on external conditions!

Being Happy

At Freedom Foam, we believe that happiness is the state of being that occurs when you integrate your body, mind, and spirit…

And that sort of internal connection leads to an overarching sense of being fully present with oneself.

This state can happen anytime – even when external circumstances are less than ideal…

Because our source of self is not external – it’s internal!

When we are truly present with our internal landscape, we can more easily navigate life’s constant changes with gratitude and grace…

Find hope more readily…

Solve problems more creatively…

And connect with our community more fully.

The Role of Community

We all need community to thrive.

In our society, even if you’re a highly independent individual, you must rely on a vast network of other people to support your daily life.

Someone – many people, really – grew the plants or raised the livestock that make up what you eat…

Another group of people made the clothes you wear…

And several other groups of people created or made available the house, vehicle, appliances, devices, products, utilities, and countless other things that keep your life moving!

So often, we think we are alone in our individual experiences, but we most assuredly are not.

Even if we never meet any of them, we rely on numerous farmers, ranchers, grocery store employees, tailors, carpenters, assembly line workers, designers, scientists, electrical engineers, plumbers, garbage collectors, retailers, and thousands of other professionals to keep our society running.

What’s the takeaway here?

We all need each other!

Every individual has something important to offer the world…

And something vital to contribute to their community.

We all have a part to play in this world…

And that begins with learning to navigate our inner landscape.

Navigating Your Inner Landscape

Learning to navigate our “inner landscape” – which encompasses mind, body, and spirit/emotion – can be challenging.

It’s not a one-size-fits-all situation!

Sure, we’re all humans with the same basic needs…

But we’re all working from different backgrounds.

We were raised by different families…

In different places…

Within different belief systems and social structures.

As a result, we all understand and relate to our “inner landscapes” – including spiritual ideas and emotion – differently…

And that’s part of what makes the world so beautiful!

At Freedom Foam, though, we believe that emotions are a way our spirits communicate…

And also a way our bodies communicate.

Emotions – even strong ones – are telling us something…

But those signals can be difficult to decipher.

Part of being an adult is connecting the emotional “dots” between our mind, body, and spirit.

Connecting the Dots Between Mind, Body, and Spirit

Emotions

Emotions are often fleeting…

But they can be overwhelming, too.

Regardless of the strength or type, we at Freedom Foam believe emotions are there to communicate something.

When we feel something “good”, it seems like all is right with the world…

But when emotions we view as “negative” arise, it can feel like the sky is falling!

What – if anything – are those emotions trying to tell us!?

Here’s where a bit of detective work comes in!

Many times, emotions show us we need to examine and/or shift something in our lives…

But there are times when everything feels terrible because you’re hungry and tired.

Our recommended first step? Take care of your physical needs, and reassess your situation.

When we care for our physical selves, our mental, spiritual, and emotional states are easier to understand…

And there’s no sense in making drastic changes in your life IF all you really need is a sandwich or a nap.

That said, if you discover you still feel like something is off when you’re fully nourished and rested, it’s likely worth digging into.

Maybe you DO need to make some drastic life changes, after all!

Our inner landscapes know when it’s time to process old wounds and move into the future…

But you don’t have to do that processing alone!

In fact, at Freedom Foam, we highly recommend seeking help when you need it.

(We like these guys, but mental health resources are increasing every day – find someone who makes sense for your situation and personality!)

Successfully navigating your inner landscape takes practice…

Patience…

Grace (no one is perfect! Cut yourself some slack!)…

And adequate nourishment for all parts of yourself – mind, body, and spirit.

Nourishing your Mind, Body, and Spirit

Part of the joy of living well is providing our whole selves with the necessary nourishment!

For instance, our bodies require food, water, and rest to survive…

Our minds require information/input and experiences to learn and grow…

And our spirits crave connection with the things, ideas, people, and actions that make us feel alive and at peace.

Sometimes it takes a while to find what works and what doesn’t…

But once you recognize what brings energy and peace to your mind, body, and spirit, it would be silly to work against them!

Our suggestion? Follow the peace.

Experiencing peace, joy, or contentment can indicate you are aligned with what your inner landscape needs.

When you make choices and changes from a place of peace, you act from the greatest state of personal power and wholeness…

And that, ultimately, leads to fulfillment in life!

Conclusion

Strength is deeper than physical…

Bigger than the mental…

And wider than the spiritual or emotional.

True strength stems from your whole being…

Body, Mind, and Spirit…

And that kind of connection makes it much easier to achieve your goals…

And find fulfillment in life!
